World War II
This section will focus on the effect World War II had on Pearland, and some things that happened on the home side during the war.
Prior to the War
According to the Texas Almanac, Pearland in 1940 was an unincorporated village with a population of 360 people with a post office and 13 businesses. After everything it went through, Pearland was nearly the same size it had been in the summer of 1900.
World War II Enlisting
On December 7, 1941, progress and private lives were put on hold. A generation of young men went off to war, 132 of them in particular, and the rest of the community held its breath, prayed, and waited. Nine of these brave men sacrificed their lives for our country.
Other Changes
One notable development during this period was that the fig plant had to close during the war. Also, baseball at Zychlinski park was significantly disrupted during the war.
